RALLY FOR THE CURE

MARCH 15 - WWGA hosted a charity event to raise funds for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

123 golfers paid $20.00 to play on the Heritage Course. Non members played as well and paid $50.00 which included the $20 and green fees.  Many people contributed from $20.00 to $300.00 even though they did not play.

Dale and Steve Curley organized the event. They both searched high and low and got many wonderful prizes to include in a raffle. Players paid $20.00 for 5 tickets and many won the wonderful gifts that Steve and Dale brought to the golf course that day.

Winners of the women's low net prize provided by the Komen folks was Michelle Schuck. She won a pink and black golf bag. Bud Bennett won the men's low net and received a putter.

Bob Slagle of S and S Tires donated 10 dozen donuts with pink frosting.  Thanks Bob.

THANKS DALE AND STEVE for all your hard work which raised $5,085 for the charity. $2,460 for the Rally for the Cure and $2,625 for the Susan G. Komen foundation which will go to the local affiliate.

February 7, 12, 14

Winter in the Desert has not made up its mind about how cold or warm it wants to be. The low net of the partners game on the Gold on the 7th started on time and players enjoyed a reasonably comfortable day on the course. But the 12th was a long slow start at 10:30 due to a frost delay. Players stayed home until ten and then bundled up to play the Heritage Course. While things looked pretty good to start on the Patriot course on the 14th, our shotgun was held up 30 minutes due to frost. The last day warmed up pretty well and at the end of the tournament, lunch was served on the patio.

WINNERS: Terry Barker & Viggy Stankovic -- Congratulations!! Overall champions came in with a 186 for the three days of play. Next Year's Tournament Chairpersons. And please note that Viggy also won over all champion in the Partnership Eclectic so she will be chairperson of the two events in January and February of 2014!!

January 10 -- THREE BEST 3'S, 4'S & 5'S. PATRIOT course. 32 members came to play on a somewhat cloudy morning.

REMINDER: Due to incorrect scoring on this game these results had to be changed. After your round please review your scorecard carefully. Deduct the handicap listed for the game that is played and put the net score in a circle that it easy for the tournament coordinators to read.  We also ask that you add up your gross score, deduct any scores that are above what your handicap allows. In other words, if you took a 9 on a hole and are only permitted a 7, place two dots over the 9 and deduct two strokes from your gross score, then deduct your handicap.  Be sure to exchange score cards with another player at the beginning of the game.

Rules provide that all players play the entire 18 holes if that is what the game calls for and most of our games state that they are 18 hole games, even though sometimes we only count 9 holes for the contest. If players quit before 18 holes are completed, they may claim an unfinished round and may not be counted for points in the contest of that day's tournament.

Please do not put an X on a scorecard for a score. After hitting 7 strokes on a par 3 and being no where near the hole, the frustration mounts and you want to just pick up and move on.  In this case, add whatever strokes you think it would take you to get the ball in the hole and go ahead and pick up and post that score. At the end of the round, when figuring your net score, deduct the necessary strokes that your handicap permits. In other words, if in this case you can post a 7 or even an 8 deduct the strokes you recorded over that figure for your net score.  If you have any questions at any time, please call or contact Terry Barker, our handicap chairperson.

FIRST FLIGHT
1st Di Carter 32. 2nd Robin Cook 32.5. 3rd Carol Erickson 33.

SECOND FLIGHT
1st Cathy Gaines 27.5. 2nd Viggy Stankovic 30. 3rd Tessie Van Wagner 31.5

THIRD FLIGHT
1st Ann DeBoer 30.5 & Laurel Prill (tie) 3rd Peggy Kirschner 31

FOURTH FLIGHT
1st Sandy Camp 29.5. 2nd Lucia Freeth 31. 3rd Diane Haller 31.5

Winners:
FIRST FLIGHT
1st Tessie Van Wagner 33. 2nd Jan Boggs 35, 3rd Terry Barker 35.5

December 13 - Joker Stapleford. Rain was predicted but in spite of the weather, 21 golfers came to play the Heritage (RED) course. The fairways were lush emerald green and looked like carpet. When players arrived at the ladies locker room, they pulled a hole assignment from the bag and played with the other three women who pulled the same hole assignment. So the group was mixed in the blind draw and members agreed that it was a nice way to pair members with other members they infrequently got to play with. Also, we received positive comments about this new game, Joker Stapleford -- a game of points.

Winners:

FIRST FLIGHT
1st Molly Van Marter 80. 2nd Tessie Van Wagner 63. 3rd Dee Mayben 60.
