DECEMBER - END OF YEAR GAMES

TOURNAMENT COORDINATORS - Donnie Chrispell and Lory Charnetsky

December 20 - Middle Nine on the Heritage Course.  A cold morning, lots of cancelations but in the end 14 women teed off at around 9:15 a.m.

Winners:
FIRST FLIGHT
1st Tessie Van Wagner 33. 2nd Jan Boggs 35, 3rd Terry Barker 35.5

SECOND FLIGHT
1st Diane Haller 32. Laurel Prill 35. 3rd Shel Taylor and Barb Mulvaine tied 36

December 13 - Joker Stapleford. Rain was predicted but in spite of the weather, 21 golfers came to play the Heritage (RED) course. The fairways were lush emerald green and looked like carpet. When players arrived at the ladies locker room, they pulled a hole assignment from the bag and played with the other three women who pulled the same hole assignment. So the group was mixed in the blind draw and members agreed that it was a nice way to pair members with other members they infrequently got to play with. Also, we received positive comments about this new game, Joker Stapleford -- a game of points.

Winners:

FIRST FLIGHT
1st Molly Van Marter 80. 2nd Tessie Van Wagner 63. 3rd Dee Mayben 60.

SECOND FLIGHT
1st Viggy Stankovic 78. 2nd Betty Scott 76. 3rd Cathy Gaines 74.

THIRD FLIGHT
1st Harriet Buttemiller 69 -- Tie with Donnie Chrispell 69, 3rd Jane Fallon 68.

TEAM Happenings

December 3 - Roadrunners ventured to Wickenburg and played golf at the Los Caballeros Golf Club.

The weather was a balmy 78 degrees, the fairways were lush and the company pleasant.  The golf playing--well, not so much. So the team was treated to a dinner at Carol and Carl Erickson's home afterwards.  Carl invited the husbands too and cooked a wonderful meal for the frazzled players.  A great end to a day filled with scenic desert beauty at the lovely resort at Wickenburg.

While playing golf, we were treated to late afternoon herd of horses racing down the desert next to the fairway. Here are some pictures:

November 1st - Kickers Replay. Members who played were encouraged to use one mulligan on the front nine and one mulligan on the back nine. Pace of play was kind of slow at first but then with some attention by an Ambassador, the pace speeded up on the back nine. Twenty-eight teed off at nine o'clock. No one complained about the weather but a few, like me, were thinking of taking up bowling after hitting balls into the water on 15 and 17. OCTOBER - Michele Schuck & Barbie Paulson -  Tournament Coordinators

Michele & Barbie along with Justin in the pro shop are doing a wonderful job following in Marge Dick and Diane Haller's footsteps.  Barbie and Michele organized a luncheon in the West Room of  Red's Grill putting a FINE point on the Individual Eclectic this season.

OPENING DAY LUNCHEON

Forty members attended this lovely mid day meal at Litchfield's in the Wigwam Resort. Judy Kennell and Elizabeth Nelson planned and organized the meal and decorations. A delicious chicken salad and yummy desert was served. Thanksgiving/Halloween centerpieces were placed on the tables---all made by Elizabeth. With extra assistance from JoAnn Dun and Elvira, the event was special.

October 25 - ABCD Harvest Ball/Hero Event. Followed by Opening Day Luncheon in Litchfield's at the resort.  Players were provided an Orange Ball so each player in the foresome had an opportunity to be a hero and count her low net score twice. Weather was outstanding and the Patriot course was a bright emerald green having been recently overseeded; greens were slow but the field was moving right along and finished in a little over 4 hours. There were 4 really low scores on this day.

Winners:

First Place Team - Boggs, Nelson, Scott, Camp - Net 122
Second Place Team - Polumbus, Gannon, Mulvaine - Net 122
Third Place Team - Erickson, Stankovic, Wilson, Boyer - Net 124
Fourth Place Team - Wilner, DeWitt, Stoneback, Dick - Net 124

October 11 & 18 - Individual Eclectic.  27 players played round one on the Heritage Course on the 11th and returned to the familiar turf on the 18th to play round two.  The better score on each hole held for the contest. Lunch in the West Room of Red's Grill right after the final round was a great way to finish the two day tournament.  Round two had 28 members participating for a total of 30 members in this two day tournament that was moved from April, which is the month that this contest  is usually played.  We had a better than expected turnout moving it from April to October.

Winners were:

First Flight: 1st DeSino, 2nd Barker, 3rd Mayben, 4th Erickson
Second Flight: 1st Gannon, 2nd Paulson, 3rd Van Wagner, 4th Stankovic
Third Flight: 1st Scott, 2nd Armstrong, 3rd Stoneback, 4th Kirschner

The real game scores were also kept for the Medallion Contest.

Players picked three holes, a par 3, par 4 and a par 5 and posted par before teeing off.  The idea was to toss out three holes that usually caused them to post high scores -- hence the name "HATE 'EM".  37 members participated in the game.
